The news below was posted here on Saturday 16th May and a link sent to Cllr Liam Kelly. He replied by email on Monday 18th May. His email included this sentence, “The owner’s representative stated in our last call a couple of weeks ago that the opening of the bridge was on track for August.” Even now, we have no explanation for why we are not allowed to cross the bridge as the safety thing makes no sense.
TITANIC BRIDGE – NO SIGNS OF RE-OPENING
Almost 2 years ago, the bridge asset manager said that he would have news for us in 6 weeks. >>> That news never came.
About 3 months ago, we were told, “The Bridge will be re-opening in 3 months.” >>> The bridge has not re-opened.
Last week, we were told that practical work towards re-opening on the bridge was underway. >>> On Wednesday 13th May, I went to have a look. Yes, there has been a change. The gate that was at the north end has been replaced by a new section of fence that has been welded in place.
One again, there has been no progress towards re-opening.
If anything, fence being welded in place and there no longer even being a gate, seems to me as if the owners have no intention of any re-opening any time soon/ever.
I am going to send a link to this page to various City and County Councillors, who have been saying the bridge will soon re-open.
