At the Monks Road Residents meeting on 18th May, a [NEW SURVEY] was launched, asking what is important now.
So far, Reopen the Titanic Bridge is top of the list. With the bridge management saying they would only talk to elected representatives, I tried winning the election on 7th May. Unfortunately, I met people in the St Giles area who had been told lies about me. I am not saying lies told during the election affected who won. Voters were mostly voting according to national issues.
Here are words from Cllr Martin Christopher regarding the Titanic Bridge that I he shared with Andy Gutherson Council Director. I would like to bring your attention to “silencing alternate views”. I am not aware that I/we here at Abbey News have been doing that.

- HELP: If Roger had come first in last week’s City Council election you’d have a local councillor working full-time for the people in the Monks Road/Winn Street area. That did not happen, so what can we do to help ourselves? Current Survey.

- NEW NEWS: A lot more happens in this part of Lincoln than most people are aware of. We would like you, the residents, to tell us the types of news stories you would like shared >> HERE << as well as about REGULAR EVENTS HERE about UNUSUAL EVENTS HERE. Some news just happens and some news is made by groups such as MRRA..
- CLEARER/CLEANER STREETS: This is a whole new approach! the council spends a lot on bin emptying and litter-clearance, yet generally there’s more dirt and litter. Abbey Ward Councillors suggested paying an extra £285,000/year for keeping streets tidy. We have come up with a very different response that local residents and visitors from further afield are starting to notice. see: The PROJECT GRAFTON
- REOPEN TITANIC BRIDGE: See: Recent News About The Titanic Bridge. and 31st March 2026 article: “Titanic Decision”.
- POTHOLES: Everyone can see our roads are deteriorating. Hardly any UK council can keep up with essential repairs. We are using FixMyStreet to report new holes. How well are POTHOLE repairs going across Abbey Ward?
- DRAINS: By the winter of 24/25 the drains on Monks Road had not been cleaned out for 3 years. We made a film showing the flooding to the council, then all the drains on the main roads were cleaned out within 3 days. A year later (3rd March ’26) there were at least 8 blocked or non-functional drains in the area we are monitoring. The council’s reply is that these will be done according to the schedule. - CONTACT US: Have you noticed that our website menu spells out: Contact Us O.F.T.E.N. (Open, Fix, Tidy, Events and News). We want to hear from everyone who: lives, works, studies and travels into/through Abbey Ward. Realistically though, about 10 messages a day will be lovely and should be plenty to keep us growing and on the right track.
- ADVERTISING: This is free to any enterprise, within Abbey Ward, that is helping people to live healthier and happier lives.. For example we are showing Arboretum Cafe and Green Synergy on the map below. Who/where else deserves a mention?
- THE CITY ELECTION IS BACK ON. Please be sure to vote for a human-being* rather than a political party. Abbey News is promoting the JUST VOTE campaign which is due to start in earnest on 15th April.

- Roads from the High Street, up Wragby Road and wiggling through the Carlton Estate (red line)
- The east edge is shown in green where there is a lot of new housing north of the old quarry, the old quarry (nature area) and countryside.
